The Faux-rish coffee and beating the heat!

It’s about 5:30 in the afternoon and the thermometer outside reads 98 Fahrenheit. The dog days of summer are in full swing in sunny So-Cal.

I’m hot as hell and the drink I’ve been craving for days is a creamy Irish coffee. I’ve thought about making them in the morning right after waking up & decided against it; I’m not in the mood to waste a day thanks to booze and coffee.

Looking inside the fridge, I try to find something that I can mix together to mimic the coffee, cream and booze fix while remaining refreshing. This is what I came up with:

Something delicious will come of this

The Faux-rish Coffee – a.k.a. The Perfect Impostor

.5 oz. simple syrup

.75 oz. Kahlua or Tia Maria

1.5 oz. Irish Whiskey

5  oz. Guinness Draught

1 medium scoop of vanilla ice cream

Garnish – fresh grated nutmeg

Start off with a bit of coffee liqueur and simple syrup

Enough Irish whiskey to make yourself smile but at least 1.5 oz.

Top the goodness with a hearty dose of Guinness

Finally, plop a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (don't make a mess!)

Don't forget to grate some fresh nutmeg on top, none of that sawdust garbage that's called pre ground-nutmeg.

The Faux-rish Coffee is a delicious sweet treat with a bit of nutty maltiness, paired with a zing from the coffee liqueur and whiskey. Finally, the vanilla ice cream provides a creamy mouth feel that cool and refreshing. I wish I had a short bread cookie to go along with it. Whatever you pair with it, this refreshing cocktail is a perfect fit for those wishing for an Irish coffee in the middle of summer.
