It certainly is competition season again ’round these parts. El Carmen recently hosted the LA Regionals for Tequila Ocho’s Viva Sangrita! contest. Sunday, April 22nd, from 4-6pm, fellow bartenders took over the cozy Mexican themed bar to serve up shots of homemade sangrita and Ocho Blanco with the hopes of winning a kickass trip to Tales of the Cocktail.
With ingredients ranging from green curry to baby heirloom tomatoes to cryo-vac’d tequila infused apples I certainly should’ve eaten more tostadas to cushion the inevitable onset of heartburn. Nevertheless! Plenty of delicious concoctions were consumed, quality tequila was flowing, and good times abounded.
The contestants were: Rich Andreoli, Chris Bostick, Joe Brooke, Edwin Cruz, Danielle Griffin, Cari Hah and Matt Wallace.
Each of these bartenders took home a bottle of 2009 Tequila Ocho Añejo(2008 actually, bottled as ’09) just for showing up and doing the thing. And the winner of the whole she-bang was Rich Andreoli. Very fitting because apparently last year his sangrita ended up splattered inside his car on the way to the event. Congrats, Rich!
